Holtec International has played a key role in a landmark achievement for Ukraine’s energy independence, as Energoatom successfully placed the 50th spent nuclear fuel container into storage at the Centralized Spent Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility (CSFSF). Built using Holtec’s HI-STAR 190 transport cask technology, the facility has safely stored fuel from all Ukrainian nuclear power plants under national control over the past three years, eliminating the need to export spent fuel to Russia. This milestone is estimated to save Ukraine approximately $200 million annually, delivering both strategic energy security and significant economic benefit.
