Anka Feldhusen is a German diplomat with more than thirty years of experience at the Federal Foreign Office of Germany. During 2023-2025, she served as Director for Civilian Crisis Prevention and Stabilization, where she led a team of 100 staff members and coordinated the use of a budget of approximately €500 million.
From 2019 to 2023, she headed the German Embassy in Ukraine, playing a key role in the development of German-Ukrainian relations. She managed a staff of up to 170 employees and oversaw the evacuation and restructuring of the embassy following the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Prior to this, Anka Feldhusen served as Head of Department at the Office of the Federal President of Germany (2016–2019), where she was responsible for foreign policy matters and advised the President on international affairs. In 2015–2016, she led the Regional Department for East Africa, the Horn of Africa, and Sudan at the German Federal Foreign Office, setting strategic objectives and supporting the work of a network of ten embassies.
She has extensive diplomatic experience in Ukraine: from 2010 to 2015 she served as Deputy Head of Mission in Kyiv, and from 1994 to 1997 she headed the embassy’s Press and Protocol Section. Earlier in her career, she worked in Havana as Deputy Head of Mission (2002–2005), led internal training at the Foreign Service Academy (2005–2009), served as a protocol coordinator, and represented Germany in Kosovo as Head of the Prizren Coordination Office.
She holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the Fletcher School (USA), a diploma from the Diplomatic Academy of the German Federal Foreign Office, and a Master’s degree in Political Science from the Paris Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po). She previously studied political science as well as Russian and English at Kiel University.
She is fluent in German (native), English, Ukrainian, and French, and has a B2 level of proficiency in Spanish and Russian.
