On April 2, 2024, the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council (USUBC) hosted a high-level working luncheon in Washington, D.C. with key leaders of the Parliament of Ukraine focused on defense and security. This event was co-organized with the Congressional Office for International Leadership (COIL), a long-time partner of USUBC.
The program featured distinguished Ukrainian lawmakers Oleksandr Zavitnevych, Chair of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence, and Galyna Mykhailyuk, Deputy Head of the Committee on Law Enforcement.
USUBC members and Senior Advisors engaged in in-depth discussions with the MPs on critical legislative and policy issues impacting Ukraine’s defense sector. Topics included efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities, joint production initiatives, ongoing reforms, and avenues for deeper collaboration with both governmental and private sector stakeholders.
USUBC Senior Advisors – Ambassador John Herbst, Director of Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center, Natalie Jaresko, EY-Parthenon, and Alan Merbaum, Booz Allen Hamilton, contributed their expert insights during the discussion.
The event brought together representatives from leading companies and institutions including Boeing, Northrop Grumman, Aevex Aerospace, AeroVironment, ATN, USKO Logistics, EY-Parthenon, Deloitte, Mission Essential, Velta Holding US, Inc., Accord Bank, Sayenko Kharenko, L3Harris, Amsted Rail Company, Kinstellar, Booz Allen Hamilton, as well as the U.S. Department of State and IMF among others.
The discussion was co-moderated by George Moraczewski, Director at L3Harris Technologies, a member of the USUBC Executive Committee and Co-Lead of the USUBC Defense Working Group, and Nadiia Khomaziuk, USUBC Executive Director, and concluded with closing remarks by Eric Luhmann, Chair of USUBC Executive Committee.
