Sacha Backes is a Senior Investment Officer in the Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services team in Europe, dedicated to early-stage business development with European corporates in the Eastern Europe region. His focus is primarily on decarbonization and circularity in the hard-to-abate manufacturing sectors.
Sacha has been with IFC for +17 years, the first 12 years of which were with IFC’s Natural Resources and Infrastructure team in London, Washington DC and Johannesburg, focusing primarily on Africa.
Before joining IFC Sacha worked for Lux-Development, the bilateral executing agency for development aid of the Luxembourg Government. With Lux-Development Sacha spent 7 years managing integrated rural development projects in Laos focused on agri-business and rural infrastructure.
Sacha has a PhD in Physics from Cambridge University and an MBA from INSEAD.
